The horseshoe crab is known for having “blue blood” due to the presence of a copper-based molecule called hemocyanin, which is used for oxygen transport, giving their blood a blue color.
Octopuses-These intelligent marine animals have blue blood due to the protein that transports oxygen in their blood, hemocyanin, which contains copper instead of iron. Octopuses also have three hearts, a doughnut-shaped brain, and other remarkable qualities.
Horseshoe crabs-These animals have blue blood because of the hemocyanin protein in their blood.
Other animals with blue blood include:
Snails, Spiders, Lobsters, Crabs, Pillbugs, Shrimp, Crayfish, Scallops, Barnacles, and Small worms (except earthworms).
The color of blood is determined by the pigment that binds to oxygen and carries it around the body. The pigment absorbs a certain color of light, and the remaining light is what we see.
