The US and Israel have been at war with Iran and its regional allies since February 28, 2026, after strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, triggering Iranian missile/drone retaliation and closure of the Strait of Hormuz Iranian missile/drone retaliation and closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions escalated further in August after a US-Iran peace-deal deadline expired, with President Trump threatening “economic warfare” and oil prices spiking near $94/barrel.
