Car headrests are designed to be adjustable for comfort and safety, but the metal rods also have a secondary function. In an emergency, such as being trapped in a car, you can remove the headrest and use the metal rods to break a window. The rods are sturdy and pointed, making them effective for shattering glass if you need to escape.
