The first Home Minister of independent India was Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He served in that position from 1947 until his death in 1950. Patel played a significant role in integrating the princely states into the Indian Union and is often referred to as the “Iron Man of India” for his leadership during the country’s formative years.
