The principle behind radioactive decay is that unstable atomic nuclei lose energy by emitting radiation to become more stable. This process involves the release of particles or electromagnetic waves, such as alpha particles, beta particles, or gamma rays, until the nucleus reaches a more stable configuration. Over time, this decay leads to the transformation of the original radioactive isotope into a different element or a more stable isotope.
