The primary difference between narrow AI and general AI lies in their scope of capabilities. Narrow AI, also known as weak AI, is designed to perform specific tasks or solve particular problems within a limited domain. These systems excel at specific functions, such as speech recognition, image classification, or recommendation systems, but lack the ability to generalize or adapt beyond their predefined tasks.
On the other hand, general AI, also referred to as strong AI or artificial general intelligence (AGI), possesses the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks and domains. General AI systems would exhibit human-like cognitive abilities, including reasoning, problem-solving, creativity, and self-improvement. Unlike narrow AI, which is tailored for specific applications, general AI would have the capacity for flexible and adaptive behavior, allowing it to perform a variety of tasks in diverse contexts without human intervention.
