It is defined as: 1 N = 1 kg × 1 m/s². Because force (F) equals mass (m) times acceleration (a), it’s unit has to be the unit of mass (kg) times the unit of acceleration (m/s²) times a constant factor (which, in the case of newtons, conveniently is 1).
