Enrichment is the process of increasing the percentage of uranium-235 in uranium ore. Natural uranium consists of about 0.7% uranium-235, while fuel for most reactors is enriched to 3-5% uranium-235. This process is critical because higher concentrations of uranium-235 improve the efficiency of the fission reaction in reactors.
