C.V. Raman, an Indian physicist, discovered the Raman effect in 1928. This phenomenon involves the scattering of light when it passes through a material, leading to a change in the light’s wavelength. The Raman effect provided important insights into the molecular composition and structure of materials and earned Raman the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
