With the death of Chittaranjan Das in 1925, and with
Motilal Nehru’s return to the Congress the following year,
the Swaraj party was greatly weakened. This led to
dissension and the party broke up in 1926.
The Swaraj Party, which was founded by Chitta Ranjan Das and Motilal Nehru in 1923 to achieve self-governance within the British Raj, faced significant internal and external challenges. The party weakened and eventually broke up around 1929. This period marked the decline of the party’s influence due to internal divisions, leadership disputes, and the changing political landscape of India.
