A still freshwater ecosystem is called a lentic ecosystem. Lentic ecosystems refer to bodies of standing or still water, such as lakes, ponds, and marshes. These ecosystems are characterized by their relatively slow water movement or absence of flow compared to lotic (flowing water) ecosystems like rivers and streams.
Lentic ecosystems support a variety of plants, animals, and microorganisms adapted to still water conditions. They are important habitats for aquatic life and play significant roles in nutrient cycling, water storage, and biodiversity conservation.
