The first mid-term elections for Lok Sabha were held in 1971. The elections were called by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, after she dissolved the Lok Sabha on 27 December 1970. The elections were held in March 1971 and the Congress party led by Indira Gandhi won a landslide victory.
