Pilates is generally considered a low-impact form of exercise because many movements do not involve repeated jumping or heavy impact on the joints. This allows people to challenge their muscles while concentrating on controlled movement. Low impact does not mean low effort. Pilates exercises can become surprisingly challenging when performed with proper technique because they require sustained muscle engagement and concentration. The intensity can often be adjusted through exercise selection, repetitions, resistance, equipment, and modifications. This makes Pilates flexible enough to fit into many different fitness routines.
