The Battle of the Little Bighorn, also known as Custer’s Last Stand, took place during the Plains Indian Wars. Specifically, it occurred during the Great Sioux War of 1876. This battle, fought on June 25-26, 1876, near the Little Bighorn River in Montana Territory (now the state of Montana, USA), was between the combined forces of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes against the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army led by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer.
