Birds maintain their feathers through a process called preening. They use their beaks to carefully clean and align their feathers. Preening helps remove dirt, parasites, and excess oil from their feathers, keeping them clean, smooth, and waterproof. Birds also produce oil from a gland near the base of their tail, which they distribute over their feathers during preening to keep them in top-notch condition. It’s like their very own spa day! 💆‍♀️🐦✨

Birds maintain their feathers by preening, which involves using their beaks to clean, align, and waterproof their feathers, as well as applying preen oil secreted from a gland near the base of their tail.
