Endocrinology is the branch of biology and medicine that deals with the endocrine system, which consists of glands that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream. These hormones act as chemical messengers and play a vital role in regulating various physiological functions, such as metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sleep, mood, and more.
In essence, endocrinology is the study of the structure and function of the endocrine glands, the synthesis and action of hormones, and the diseases and disorders related to them. Endocrinologists are medical specialists who diagnose and treat hormone-related conditions and work to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body.
