Hair shedding is completely normal to some extent. Normally, an individual loses 50 to 100 hairs per day as part of the natural hair growth cycle. However, if there are large amounts of hair in the shower, on the pillow, or while brushing, it’s worth finding out what’s causing it.
Excessive hair shedding can occur due to various reason such as stress, illness, surgery, hormonal fluctuations, autoimmune reaction (alopecia areata), hereditary cause (androgenetic alopecia), or nutritional deficiencies (low iron, vitamin D, or protein). The occurrence of any of these causes hair loss. In many people, genetics is another common cause. Conditions like androgenetic alopecia gradually weaken hair follicles, resulting in finer hair.
Losing **50–100 hairs per day** is normal, but excessive hair shedding can happen due to genetics, stress, illness, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, certain medications, scalp infections, or frequent heat styling and chemical treatments. Temporary shedding often occurs a few months after a major physical or emotional stress and usually improves once the underlying cause is addressed. If your hair shedding continues for more than 2–3 months, or you notice visible thinning or bald patches, it’s important to consult a hair specialist. **QHT Clinic** provides personalized hair and scalp assessments to identify the cause and recommend the most appropriate treatment for healthier, stronger hair.
