Languages often disappear because the community of speakers shifts to speaking a more dominant language, usually for economic or social reasons. When fewer people speak a language, it’s harder to pass it on to new generations. Sometimes, the loss of a language also means losing unique cultural knowledge and traditions tied to that language.
