Car tires can protect occupants from lightning strikes due to their insulating properties. When lightning strikes a vehicle, the electric current typically travels along the metal frame of the car, following the path of least resistance. However, the rubber tires act as insulators, preventing the electric current from reaching the occupants inside. Instead, the current is conducted through the metal frame of the car and then safely discharged into the ground. This phenomenon is known as the “Faraday cage effect,” where the metal body of the car acts as a protective shield, redirecting the electrical charge around the occupants.
