The first head coach of the Indian cricket team was Anil Kumble. He served as the head coach from 2016 to 2017. Kumble, a former Indian cricketer and legendary leg-spinner, was appointed as head coach following the 2016 ICC World T20 tournament. His tenure focused on improving team performance and fostering a competitive spirit within the squad.
Keki Tarapore is widely considered the first head coach of the Indian cricket team, serving in 1971. Tarapore, a Karnataka cricketer, was more respected as a coach than as a player. He played one Test match for India and was a manager for the national cricket team.
