The invention of the sewing machine is attributed to multiple inventors over time, but Elias Howe is often credited with creating the first practical and successful sewing machine in 1846. He patented a machine that used a lockstitch design. However, Isaac Singer also played a significant role in the development and commercialization of the sewing machine, improving upon Howe’s design and making it more accessible to the public.
