The Father of Railways is often considered to be George Stephenson. An English engineer and inventor, Stephenson played a crucial role in the development of the first successful steam locomotive and the creation of the first public inter-city railway line, the Stockton and Darlington Railway, which opened in 1825. He also designed the famous locomotive “Rocket,” which won the Rainhill Trials in 1829 and demonstrated the viability of steam-powered rail transport. Stephenson’s innovations and contributions to railway engineering earned him this esteemed title.
