The railway engine, or locomotive, was invented by George Stephenson. He built his first locomotive, named “Blucher,” in 1814. Stephenson’s most famous locomotive, the “Rocket,” was constructed in 1829 and won the Rainhill Trials, establishing him as a key figure in the development of railway transportation.
