Narasimhavarman II built the Shore temple at Mahabalipuram.
The Shore Temple of Mahabalipuram was built in the 8th century CE by Narasimhavarman II, also known as Rajasimha. Narasimhavarman II reigned over the Pallava kingdom throughout the early 8th century and was a great patron of the arts.
Mahabalipuram’s Shore Temple is special for a number of reasons. It is an iconic example of the Pallava Dynasty’s contributions to Hindu temple architecture in South India. It is also special due to its layout, which features three shrines dedicated to two of the main Hindu deities (Shiva and Vishnu) all built on one large platform.
Located on the shores of Bay of Bengal, the Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram is recognised as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites of India.
