Uttar Pradesh is the largest wheat producing state of India accounting for over 36 percent of the production and 36 percent of the wheat area of the country. Fine alluvial soil deposited by the mighty Ganga and its several big and small tributaries and a close network of canals, supplemented by large number of tube wells have helped U.P. to occupy the top position.
