The largest island in the world is Greenland. It has an area of approximately 2.16 million square kilometers (836,300 square miles). Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark and is located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Despite its large size, much of Greenland is covered by ice, making it sparsely populated.
