The first calculating device historically recognized is the Abacus, which dates back to ancient times, around 3000 BC in Mesopotamia. It is a simple mechanical device used for performing arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division through the manipulation of beads or stones on rods or wires. The Abacus played a crucial role in early civilizations for facilitating calculations before the development of more sophisticated mechanical and electronic calculators.
