The brightest asteroid is Vesta. In a dark place, it can be seen from Earth with the naked eye.
Seen from Earth, Vesta is the brightest of the asteroids; at its brightest it can just barely be seen with the unaided eye from a dark location. Vesta was discovered by Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers on March 29, 1807.
