World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is observed on May 8th each year. It commemorates the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross movement, and serves as a tribute to the humanitarian work carried out by the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies worldwide. The day highlights the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality, which guide the actions of these organizations in providing aid to those in need, particularly during times of conflict, disasters, and emergencies.
