Haboobs are often called “black blizzards” or “black wind storms.” They can span 60 to 90 miles (96 to 145 kilometers) in length and reach heights of 5,000 to 8,000 feet (1.5 to 2.4 kilometers), although haboobs have been known to tower as high as 15,000 feet (4.5 kilometers).
