Gunpowder was invented in the 9th century CE and revolutionized warfare and mining. The magnetic compass, developed during the Han Dynasty, improved navigation and exploration. The invention of movable type printing during the Song Dynasty (11th century CE) allowed for the mass production of books and the spread of knowledge. These innovations had profound impacts on Chinese society and the world at large.
