Haryana played a crucial role in the Bhakra Nangal Project, a major multipurpose river valley project on the Sutlej River. Completed in 1963, it is one of the largest and earliest irrigation and hydroelectric projects in India. Haryana, being one of the beneficiary states, received substantial water and power supply from the project, which boosted agriculture and industrialization, contributing to the state’s economic development.
