The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the Soviet Union and the United States, along with their respective allies, from the end of World War II until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Major events include the Berlin Blockade, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and the Space Race. It was marked by nuclear arms competition, ideological conflict, and proxy wars.
