Heterotrophs are organisms that are dependent upon others for their food requirements. These organisms are commonly known as consumers and directly or indirectly dependent upon producers or green plants for their nutrient needs.
The term that denotes organisms getting their food from others is “heterotrophs.” Heterotrophs are organisms that cannot produce their own food through photosynthesis or chemosynthesis and instead obtain organic carbon and nutrients by consuming other organisms or their remains. This contrasts with autotrophs, which are able to produce their own food using sunlight or chemical energy. Heterotrophs include animals, fungi, some bacteria, and protists that rely on organic material derived from other living or once-living organisms for their energy and nutrition.
