Chronic stress can exacerbate PCOD symptoms by triggering hormonal imbalances and increasing inflammation in the body. Stress activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, leading to the release of cortisol, the body’s primary stress hormone. Elevated cortisol levels can disrupt the normal function of reproductive hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, contributing to irregular menstrual cycles, ovulatory dysfunction, and other PCOD symptoms. Moreover, stress-induced inflammation can worsen insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction, further complicating the management of PCOD. Therefore, stress management techniques such as mindfulness meditation, yoga, deep breathing exercises, and regular relaxation can be beneficial in reducing stress levels and improving overall well-being in women with PCOD.
