Although both methods follow the same Pilates principles, Reformer Pilates and Mat Pilates offer different experiences and unique advantages. Mat Pilates uses your own body weight as resistance while performing exercises on a padded exercise mat. Small accessories like resistance bands, Pilates rings, or exercise balls may also be incorporated to increase variety and challenge. Reformer Pilates uses a specially designed machine equipped with springs, straps, pulleys, and a moving carriage. The adjustable resistance allows exercises to become easier or more challenging depending on individual fitness levels.
