The Atlatl, or spear-thrower, is a tool used to enhance the force and distance of thrown spears. Its use dates back to around 30,000 BCE, and it significantly advanced hunting techniques in prehistoric times.
Atlatls allow you to throw a dart much farther and with greater force. They were a simple and effective technology used for hunting from the Paleoindian period until the invention of the bow and arrow in the Late Woodland period.
