Ribosomes play a central role in protein synthesis by serving as the site where amino acids are assembled into proteins. They translate messenger RNA (mRNA) sequences into polypeptide chains through the process of translation. Ribosomes read the mRNA code and, with the help of transfer RNA (tRNA), link the appropriate amino acids in the correct sequence to form proteins, which are then folded into their functional structures.
