IIT Madras has introduced Robotics and Automation (RA) as a brand-new GATE 2027 test paper, assigned the paper code RA, combining concepts from electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, programming, control systems, robotics, and industrial automation. It’s a 100-mark, 180-minute exam with a common Part A and an optional Part B (Electrical or Mechanical) chosen inside the exam window itself. Part A covers Engineering Mathematics, Basics of Mechatronics, and Principles of Robotics and Automation, worth 60 marks, while the optional section contributes 25 marks. The addition was announced by IIT Madras, the organising institute for GATE 2027, to reflect evolving academic and industry requirements, alongside other syllabus updates made after five years
