Detail: The larynx, also known as the voice box, is a part of the respiratory system located in the neck between the pharynx and the trachea. It contains the vocal cords, which vibrate to produce sound during speech and singing. The larynx also serves as a protective mechanism to prevent food and liquids from entering the airway during swallowing.
