Rewari is historically significant as a center of resistance against British rule and for its contributions to India’s independence movement. The town was the birthplace of Rao Tula Ram, a key figure in the 1857 Revolt. Rewari also has a rich tradition of metalwork and trade, and it played an important role in the development of the Indian railway system, being home to one of the earliest railway workshops in India.
