Sheng jian bao, also known as “pan-fried pork buns,” are a type of Chinese bun that is pan-fried to create a crispy, golden bottom while the top remains soft and steamed. The buns are filled with a mixture of ground pork, ginger, and green onions, often with a small amount of soup inside. Unlike other types of buns, such as baozi (which are steamed) or char siu bao (which are baked), sheng jian bao has a distinctive crispy texture on the bottom and a juicy filling, making it a popular street food in Shanghai.
