Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is an neurological complication due to herpes zoster infection of the geniculate ganglion, affecting 7th and 8th cranial nerves mostly and 9th,10th nerves
more rarely.
It occurs when the varicella-zoster virus (that causes chicken pox and shingles) reactivates and affects the facial nerve. After chickenpox, the virus remains in the nerves and can reactivate years later, affecting the facial nerves.
Triad of this syndrome are:
•ipsilateral facial paralysis,
•otalgia,
•vesicular rash
