In India, paternity leave refers to the entitlement provided to male employees to take time off from work to care for their newborn child or to support their spouse during childbirth. In January 2022, the government allows male employees working in the public sector and some private sector organizations to avail paternity leave. The duration of paternity leave varies depending on the employer’s policies and can range from a few days to a few weeks. During paternity leave, employees are often entitled to receive their regular salary or a portion of it, as per their organization’s policies.
