Edge computing refers to the practice of processing data closer to the source of data generation (i.e., at the “edge” of the network) rather than relying on a centralized data center. This reduces latency, improves response times, and decreases the amount of data sent to the cloud. For IoT applications, edge computing enhances performance and reliability by enabling real-time data processing and analysis, which is critical for applications like autonomous vehicles and smart city infrastructure.
