Generative Grammar (GG) is the label for the linguistic theory developed by the American scholar Noam Chomsky (b. 1928) and his followers; a GG, in Chomsky’s own word, is “a system of rules that in some explicit and well-defined way assigns structural descriptions to sentences” (Chomsky, 1965: 8).
