Cellular respiration is the process by which cells break down glucose and other organic molecules to produce energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). It involves three main stages: glycolysis, the citric acid cycle (Krebs cycle), and oxidative phosphorylation (electron transport chain).
