Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood around your body.
It’s measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and consists of two numbers:
Systolic pressure: The top number, which represents the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats and pumps blood out.
Diastolic pressure: The bottom number, which represents the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats.
When your blood pressure is too high (hypertension), it can cause health problems like heart disease and stroke. When it’s too low (hypotension), you might feel dizzy or faint. Keeping your blood pressure in a healthy range is important for your overall health.
