AltaVista was one of the first search engines on the web, launched in 1995. It allowed users to search for information across the internet using a simple interface and advanced algorithms. AltaVista was notable for its speed and the ability to index a large number of web pages. Over time, it added features like image and video search. However, its popularity declined in the early 2000s with the rise of Google, and it was eventually acquired by Yahoo! in 2003. AltaVista was officially shut down in 2013.
