A diode is a semiconductor device that allows current to flow in only one direction. It consists of a p-n junction, where one side is doped with a material containing excess positive charge carriers (p-type) and the other side with excess negative charge carriers (n-type). The main function of a diode is to regulate the direction of current flow, making it essential in rectification circuits and voltage regulation.
